Shannara Emmett is a Summa Cum Laude Southern New Hampshire University alumna with a Bachelor of Arts in English and Creative Writing. She writes grounded romantic fantasy and magical realism where unique magic systems are tied to the human spirit. Her stories follow fierce heroines navigating deep loss and the loyalty of the families they choose. Currently living in Texas with her husband and three children, Shannara can be found gardening, crocheting, or designing handcrafted bookish products when she isn't writing.

I write stories for the dreamers who have always felt a little too much—the ones who find more truth in fantasy than in the evening news, and who believe, against all evidence, that magic is real if you just know where to look. Raised in Southern Utah, my love with literature sparked in the fourth grade after a summer reading challenge, which quickly led me to discover the rich fantasy origins of my own name. From that moment on, building intricate worlds, crafting unique magical systems, and weaving poetry with layers of angst and spirituality became everything.
My books are filled with fierce heroines who don't wait to be rescued, morally gray men who earn their redemption arcs the hard way, and worlds layered with deep-seated secrets. Dark romance, modern elemental magic, and forbidden bonds are the threads I return to again and again.
That same drive to create shapes my life outside the pages. Having earned my Bachelor of Arts in English and Creative Writing from Southern New Hampshire University, I am dedicated to balancing a vibrant creative life with a beautifully full household. Currently based in Texas with my husband and three young children, I can usually be found tending to my garden, baking, reading, or creating small, beautiful things—whether that means 3D printing custom bookish pieces or spending time outdoors with my family, friends, and our poodle mix.
Whether I’m working on my current WIP or shaping new creations, I build spaces for outcasts, survivors, and anyone looking for a home among the shadows.
